Silkair Singapore to Luang Prabang flight review

It's June now ! My happiest months of the year has always been June and December, since my childhood days (school holidays) and since I started working (school holidays 😊). Same reason but from different perspective. Haha !

In this month, I have travelled to Laos, Sri Lanka (for transit only), εŒ—δΊ¬ and Genting, M'sia.

Before introducing Laos, I shall do a short review of my flight on Silkair from Singapore to Luang Prabang. This route only started about one year ago and does a circular route: Singapore -> Vientiane -> Luang Prabang -> Singapore. The aircraft is an Airbus A319, the smallest within the Silkair fleet.

Silkair is the regional airline of SIA. It operates A319, A320 and B737 narrowbodies only on mainly short and a few medium haul flights within Asia and Australia. It is a full service airline with in flight meals and entertainment (remember to bring own devices to stream).

Cheap tickets can be bought during promotions. I bought mine at a roadshow where return tickets to Luang Prabang and other countries cost as little as $99. At the time of purchase, the cheapest tickets are gone and mine cost $129. Still a good deal.

Newspapers of the day are provided during boarding.
Silkair publishes its own in flight magazine.

Silkair fleet of aircrafts does not provide PTVs. In addition to the overhead screen featuring short comedies, it has the Silkair Studio, its wireless inflight entertainment which can be streamed to our own devices once in the air.

It is free and contains some movies, short films and music. I felt that these are sufficient for the duration of its flights.

However, it is not the inflight wifi. This is announced in flight too.

Something I always enjoy looking at from the window seat !

This must be the most interesting immigration card I have seen. The back cover actually helps to promote the country.

Yup. We are in Laos.

We reach Vientiane in 2hrs 40min. All passengers including those on transit have to alight. For those of us in transit, we have to pass through security and wait in the gate hold room for about 40min while the aircraft is prepared for its onward journey.

Boarding is soon called and transit passengers board first. Followed by those heading back to Singapore.

Vientiane Wattay Airport

The flight from Vientiane to Luang Prabang only took 30 minutes. Only orange juice is served. Silkair does not have pick up rights on this domestic route so there are lesser passengers. It seems that the majority of passengers travels between Singapore and Vientiane.

Luang Prabang Airport. A small airport equipped with airbridges.
It is situated in a valley among towering mountains on all sides.
I liked its airport building !
