On the second day of 2019, I went to watch two generally well-received movies at Jurong Point: Aquaman & Bumblebee.
Aquaman is set in the underwater world of Atlantis. The hero in the movie, Aquaman, was born to the queen of Atlantis and a normal human being. Since young, Aquaman only lived with his father while learning supernatural underwater techniques. While the queen returned to Atlantis and was sent to the trenches, presumably dead.
Years later, the adult Atlantis was persuaded to go to Atlantis to regain his rightful place as the king and at the same time prevent a war between Atlantis and people on land.
In his quest to find the trident, he went to the Sahara desert and the underwater trenches where he reunited with the queen of Atlantis. Together, they returned and Aquaman completes his quest and became king.
Some interesting scene include the drum-playing octopus and the ring of fire, where the duel between the two brothers were held.
There is actually a post-credit scene, where Dr Shin is doing some research and trying to find out more about Atlantis.
Now, I have intended and actually watched these two movies today. But I was quite lucky. Turns out, the Aquaman movie screening was delayed by close to half an hour. As the delay went on, some patrons step out of the theatre, presumably to check out the delay. Later on, I heard that the person-in-charge forgot to start the screening.
Anyway, as the movie ends, a person-in-charge was standing by the exit and handing out a complimentary movie pass to every patron in return for the delay. Nice gesture and goodwill from GV indeed. Just what I need to watch the second movie. Haha !
This leads me to the second movie: the Bumblebee. It is the name of a transformer, given by Charlie when she discovered him in the form of a beatle car. Bumblebee escaped to planet Earth from his enemies. But the enemies, other transformers, soon showed up and a battle began, involving humans as well. Finally, Bumblebee, together with charlie, managed to defeat the enemies and the movie ended at the beautiful Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco.
I enjoyed watching these two movies and it's even better when I only need to pay for one.
A point to note, GV shows quite many commercials prior to the screening. So it's good to enter the theatre after the movie starting time. For me, I arrived at the cinema at about the starting time in both instances, so there was minimum waiting time. I bought the ticket at the counter, which turns out to be cheaper than buying online due to the extra convenience fees, and entered the theatre straightaway. For the second movie, I reached the cinema a few minutes after the starting time and still managed to get the ticket for that show.
Not too many movie-goers on a weekday and on the first day of school !
