Amazing business class fare on Hong Kong Airlines

A couple of days ago, Hong Kong airlines published a business class mistake fare under S$800 round trip from America west coast cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco to some Asian cities of Bangkok, Shanghai and Bali.

This fare was available for only a few hours before all tickets at this price was quickly snapped up. So did I purchase this fare?

Well, I did. At first. I purchased the tickets through expedia. The airline website took a long time to load, probably because many other potential passengers were viewing this fare as well. As with my previous expedia bookings, the booking confirmation arrived in my mail box within minutes. The ticket was issued correctly in business class and I cross checked on the airline website itself.

However, within 24 hours, I decided 'reluctantly' to cancel my booking for a full refund. At that time, I booked my travel dates on the days I was already in America.

I had already fixed my travel plans for those dates. So this additional business class fare is going to potentially disrupt my travel plans if I were to book it.

Secondly, the cities included in this fare are those that I have already been to - Los Angeles, San Francisco, Bangkok, Shanghai and Bali. Though this will be my first time trying out Hong Kong Airlines, this fare is not as tempting to me.

In addition, for this trip, I wanted to tighten my travel budget, given that I'll be travelling for about one month. Not to mention there will be positioning flight costs involved as well. As tempting as the business class fare is, I decided to forgo this fare. There is a bit of regret, but hey, just wait for the next mistake fare to come along. 😀

Fortunately, expedia flight booking allows for 24 hours free cancellation for my ticket. So I proceeded to try and cancel online. For reasons unknown to me, I couldn't cancel online. A local number was provided to me instead. I called but the number didn't work. Perhaps expedia should just update this contact number. After some online research, I got hold of an expedia number in Atlanta, U.S. and made the call. The call was picked up quickly and the U.S. agent cancelled my ticket swiftly.

So yes, I cancelled the ticket and received a full refund, hopefully. Of course, I incurred some overseas call charges. Something for me to remember.

In conclusion, this time, I didn't give in to temptation. I hope I made the right choice. Haha!
