Beijing '10

Today is 31 Dec 2014. Tomorrow marks the start of 2015. My new year resolution... to earn $$ and save $$. Yes, I want to save up for my america trip. Probably the year after. It is one continent that I have not visited and is on my wishlist. But America is too far away from Singapore, so need a lot of $$ to enjoy myself over there. I promise myself not to overspend in 2015 so that I can save enough for a wonderful trip. To be precise, I want to visit U.S. and Canada.

These recent years I have already started to reduce my trips, partly
because I feel that I have travelled enough. The world is just too big to visit in 1 lifetime. And my aim is not to visit every single country in the world. My aim is just to explore as many countries as I'm financially and physically able to. Thank you God for giving me the opportunity to visit many countries. I have always appreciate and treasure each and every of my trip, for there are always new things to learn, and new experience to enjoy.

Beijing, the capital of big (very big) China, is also my first time to China. I truly learnt the meaning of overpopulation and air pollution. In comparison, the haze we experience here is really nothing. Reminds me of this saying: 不到长城好汉 Don't know who or where I learn this from, but anyway went to see the Great Wall. I present you, the photos...

My first and likely last time on a Chinese airplane.

Birds nest

Forbidden palace. Well, not really forbidden to go in now. Grand and majestic.
Found a quiet spot for a breather. Too many mainland Chinese tourists.

Temple of Heaven

On a rickshaw

Shopping at Wangfujing. Like our Orchard Road, but cheaper

An acrobatics performance

At the Great Wall entrance 八达岭

See the lines of people behind me. As I climb higher, people get lesser

Chanced upon this street of art sculptures

Went to the 故宫. There is another one in Taipei

South Korea '10

This is my 2nd trip to South Korea. It is a very beautiful place. Last time we went, it was winter and it was my first time seeing snow and snowing. This time, we decided to see Korea in summer. We still went to Seoul, but we explored other cities.

The first monument we see in Geumsan. This is a very small city, can be covered in a few hours. It is not a tourist destination. In fact, I'm quite certain that we are the only tourists in this city in the 2 days we were there. This city grows ginseng and sells ginseng. There is even a ginseng museum here. There is a wet market where every seller sells only ...? Guess ....

Not only this, the shops here sells all kinds of ginseng candies, biscuits and chocolates! I tried and bought some, but not really to my liking. I also tried fried ginseng here. They fry it in flour and serve hot! Each one only a few SG cents.

I don't think this small town is on any tour package route, so you would have to come here on your own, on their long distance coach. I don't think there is any train station nearby. Directions are all in Korean, so be sure you know the basics!

A nice bridge, but with very few admirers

Stone pagoda, a National Treasure

At a pottery village

This almost barren land is actually Hwangnyongsa excavation site of an ancient temple.

The only submerged tomb in the world for an ancient king

Bulguksa temple, an UNESCO heritage site. This is a popular tourist destination, but luckily not many tourists when I was there. Too many nice places in Korea to visit:)

Beautiful place at night. The ancient temple complex and its reflections

Ho Chi Minh City - May '10

This is my first time in Vietnam. Till now I have been there 3 times, each time to a different city. As the photo below shows, Vietnam is a developing country. To me, I like to visit both developed and developing countries. Though it is lacking in infrastructure, it does offer a different insight into the everyday life of the locals and the history it reveals. It is a mere 1.5 hours flight from Singapore. Ho Chi Minh city is not really a popular tourist destination. Rather it is business travellers who will come here. But the 2 famous attractions here are the Mekong river cruise and the cu chi tunnels.

Street scene

Ben Thanh Market. Go there for its cheap souvenirs

My boatman. They earn a living on these tourist cruises

My selfie :)

Now we are at the cu chi tunnels. This is a retired real tank.

Yes, we can pay to shoot live rounds here

The tunnels. I did climb in. Claustrophobic

Coming out for fresh air!!
