This country at the tip of India is not a heavily frequently tourist destination. At least not so popular for Singaporeans. One reason I feel is that the distance between attractions are big. It takes a few hours by land to get to each place. Another reason could be the attractions are not as famous and numerous as elsewhere. The good thing is, it is not crowded wherever we went, so the atmosphere was good. We hardly came across tourists, Chinese or Westerners. Most people were their locals or Indians. So if you want to visit this country, now is a good time.
We went in June, fortunately it wasn't raining that heavy and the weather didn't affect our travel plans. We felt totally safe all the time. It is advisable to have a tour guide to bring us around in a car, as public transport is not convenient to get around. We went to Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, the UNESCO heritage sites and Colombo. It was a whirlwind trip and we enjoyed ourselves very much, thanks to our informative, knowledgeable and friendly tour guide.
